Some Stuff To Think About

Posted by Luann Johnson on

The subject of my blog for this month comes from a conversation I had the other day with a friend about all the "stuff" we accumulate as we go through life.  Okay, to be honest, the conversation started with talking about all the "crap" I have boxed up from cleaning out the old house.  But this happened to be one of those rare occasions where we took the conversation below surface level, and went deep into some more thought-provoking material. We, as humans, begin accumulating stuff almost immediately after we're born.  First it's my mommy, my daddy--and then fairly quickly...

New House Saga--Chapter 2

Posted by Luann Johnson on

Okay so…we’ve moved into the new house.  Only 5 months behind schedule.  And if I wanted to get technical about it we weren’t really even supposed to move in when we did.   But apparently Mother Nature could tell how frustrated we were getting, living in that single-wide, sharing a bathroom…and a sink… waiting for the contractors to finish…or at least get to the close enough point.  And so she sent us a lovely little hail storm that threw baseball-size missiles at us that not only broke out a bunch of windows and completely trashed the brand new metal roof on...

Posted by Luann Johnson on

My blog this month, in honor of the month of April when my mother brought me into this world, is all about being a parent.  For those of you reading this who are parents already, I hope you recognize in this something that you can empathize with, sympathize with, or maybe just commiserate with.  For those of you who have not yet experienced the pleasures of parenthood but hope to someday, you'll most likely take away from this blog one of three things:  1) an appreciation of the joys of children that makes you long to be a parent,  2)...

Everything You Never Wanted To Know About Perception

Posted by Luann Johnson on

The older I get and the more divided the world gets, the more I tend to reflect on the idea of perception.  How it changes depending on different variables--your age, your economic circumstances, your familial situation, etc...  For example, when you're a small child, your entire world consists of your mom, your dad, your siblings, your pets--because in my house they were for sure considered family members--whatever your immediate family unit is.  In those first few years before you venture out into the big, bad world on your own, to preschool or kindergarten or whatever, there isn't anything else that...
